Journal Broadcast Group/IMG Announce New Huskers Radio Home in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. (February 10, 2015) – Journal Broadcast Group and IMG, the multimedia partner of the University of Nebraska, have entered into a new radio partnership in Omaha that will expand the reach of Cornhuskers sports, broadcast more games across the university’s entire sports lineup, and increase exposure for all Nebraska sports.

The new five-year Omaha affiliate agreement with KXSP-AM (590), KKCD-FM (105.9), and KEZO-FM (92.3) will provide better coverage for Huskers sports through a strong AM signal on an all-sports format radio station and additional new FM affiliates. The contract with Nebraska’s current Omaha affiliate, KFAB-AM, expires on June 30, 2015.  When the switch to new affiliates is made on July 1, current IMG audio broadcast talent will transition to the new stations.

“We are excited to have strong, consistent coverage with this new partnership giving fans the opportunity to listen to Huskers games across multiple sports," said Chris Ferris, VP of Broadcasting for IMG. “We’ll be bringing more fans Huskers women’s basketball and volleyball as well as baseball games. Partnering with an all-sports AM station will also increase Nebraska Athletics auxiliary programming along with expanded television exposure on Journal Broadcast Group-owned KMTV Television.”

“In preparing for a new radio rights contract, the University’s primary goal has been to maximize the number of athletics events available to our fans, ensuring the broadest broadcast signal coverage, and achieving greater exposure for all Husker sports,” said Dave Witty, Sr. Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and Communications, University of Nebraska.  “We appreciate the efforts of IMG and the proposal from Journal Broadcast Group which will now include coverage of the full Husker Baseball schedule in Omaha.  Additionally, we know that Husker fans will appreciate the opportunity to hear all three hours of Sports Nightly programming in Omaha and surrounding areas, which provides additional exposure for our Olympic sports as well as an abundance of programming outside of Huskers football.  Our university’s teams, student-athletes, fans, and corporate supporters will all benefit.”

We are always on the lookout for opportunities to add compelling local content in our markets,” said Steve Wexler, Executive Vice President, Radio at Journal Broadcast Group. “The addition of University of Nebraska athletics on our stations in Omaha is the latest example.  I'm thrilled to add the Huskers to our menu of local, unique programming.”

“We are honored and excited to become a partner with IMG and the University of Nebraska,” said Mark Halverson, VP/GM Journal Broadcast Group Omaha Radio. “We look forward to showcasing Nebraska Sports on our radio stations, as the new Omaha Home for the Huskers!”
