NU Remains Undefeated with 5-2 Win over Drake

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over the Drake Bulldogs today at the Lincoln Racquet Club. The two teams, both undefeated for the season, went head-to-head for their 33rd meeting in program history. The Huskers are now 3-0 for the season.

After a sweep in doubles action to give the Bulldogs the early point, NU battled back winning five of the six singles matches. Nebraska's No. 1, 2 and 5 singles spots remain undefeated, with No. 4 and 6 spots also earning victories today.

Izabella Zgierska and Lisa Andersson paired up at the No. 1 doubles spot to face Mariel Ante and Tess Herder while Spurti Shivalingaiah and Maggy Lehmicke faced Nell Boyd and Maddie Johnson at the No. 2 spot. NU fell short, 6-2, for both matches. Drake's Jordan Eggleston and Adrienne Jensen paired up to defeat Mackenna Maddox and Materina Matysova, 6-3, giving Drake the point for doubles. 

At the No. 1 singles spot, Lehmicke defeated Ante in a pair of 6-3 sets while Zgierska bested Herder, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. Andersson battled Johnson but fell short  6-4, 6-3. Shivalingaiah, undefeated at the No. 4 singles spot, outplayed Boyd earning a 6-4, 7-5 victory as Matysova battled through three sets to come away with the 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win. Maddox ousted Jensen, earning a 6-2, 7-5 win. 

Earning the victory over Drake put the Huskers at a 19-14 all-time series advantage over the Bulldogs.

The Huskers will take on Eastern Michigan Sunday, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Nebraska Tennis Center.
