Talk about a holiday break. Two of college football’s most historic programs will collide in the Holiday Bowl on Saturday, December 27, giving Nebraska fans a perfect opportunity to watch something truly B1G – the Huskers’ first trip to the West Coast since playing UCLA in 2012 and first Holiday Bowl since playing in back-to-back games against Arizona and Washington in 2009 and 2010. This month’s Holiday Bowl is sure to attract Big Red fans who get the opportunity to experience America’s favorite year-round climate, along with San Diego’s beautiful beaches and stunning sunsets.
The Holiday Bowl has been a popular destination for Husker followers and this year’s matchup of two ranked teams will be no exception. Tickets for the Holiday Bowl are on sale to the public now at Huskers.com. Beginning Monday morning tickets can also be purchased by calling the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-8-BIG RED. Fans can purchase tickets by using VISA, MasterCard or Discover. Holiday Bowl tickets range in price from $75 to $120, and Nebraska will receive an allotment of 6,000 tickets for the game. Use the links above and sit with other Husker fans, purchasing your tickets through Huskers.com.
Eichorst: Holiday Bowl a Wonderful Partner
“We are excited to celebrate our 51st bowl appearance with a trip to San Diego for the Holiday Bowl,” University of Nebraska Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst said. “The Holiday Bowl is a new wonderful partner for the Big Ten Conference, and our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans are excited to travel to San Diego for what I know will be an unforgettable experience. USC is an outstanding institution with an excellent football program and will be a great matchup for our team.”
Junior offensive guard Givens Price appreciates Nebraska fans and hopes they support the Huskers’ visit to the West Coast. Price attended last Friday morning’s press conference that introduced Mike Riley as Nebraska’s new head football coach. Riley will be immersed in the process of selecting his staff and recruiting, but will travel to Nebraska’s bowl game in a rare role. “I will be there as a fan,” he said Friday. Price said last Thursday night’s short team meeting with Coach Riley in the football auditorium went well. “We could tell by what Coach Riley said that he’s a player-first coach,” Price said.
Cotton Leading Nebraska’s Bowl Preparations
Former Nebraska player and long-time assistant coach Barney Cotton is leading Nebraska’s bowl game preparations, working with all other Husker assistant coaches. “We look forward to the opportunity to take on USC in the Holiday Bowl, and the opportunity to finish our season with a trip to San Diego,” Cotton said. “Our goal as a coaching staff is to provide a great bowl experience and put this team in position for success in the Holiday Bowl."
Price agrees with Cotton. “At the end of the day, you play football for your teammates, and that’s the way our captains and all of us feel,” Price said. “Our seniors are 9-and-3. They want to go out a 10-game winner. We all want that. That would mean a lot.” Nebraska fans have the same opportunity as the players to finish with a flourish, and when you consider all the options, they seem fairly equal. In Nebraska’s 50 previous bowl games, which ranks third all-time in college football behind Alabama and Texas, the Huskers have won 25 bowls and lost 25. With a 0-3-1 all-time record in the short series with us, the Huskers also have a chance to beat the Trojans for the first time, giving Big Red fans the opportunity to show up when they’re needed most.
