Gordon Wins Fourth Gold Glove Award

After helping the Kansas City Royals make a run to the World Series for the first time since 1985, former Husker All-American Alex Gordon was awarded his fourth straight Rawlings Gold Glover Award on Tuesday night. Gordon was joined on the list by fellow Royals Eric Hosmer (first base) and Salvador Perez (catcher) for the second straight season.

Many media members commented that the Royals had the best defensive outfield in baseball this season.

"I feel like we have been the last three years," Gordon said. "I'm just being biased, but just from being on the field and watching every guy make a spectacular play. Every day it seemed like there was somebody new. There are no weaknesses with our defense, especially with having [Jarrod] Dyson on the bench, coming in late in the games made it even better.

Gordon became the first Royal to win four Gold Gloves in a row since Frank White’s reign at second base from 1977 to 1982. Gordon also became the only Husker to win four Gold Gloves, as he was tied with former Husker and current Head Coach Darin Erstad for the most Gold Gloves with three each after last season. Erstad made MLB history in 2004 when he became the first player to ever win Gold Gloves in the infield and outfield. We earned the award as a center fielder in 2000 and 2002, before being selected as a Gold Glove recipient at first base in 2004.

Over the past four seasons Gordon has totaled a MLB-best 62 outfield assists, while committing just eight errors in 1,365 chances.
