Nebraska vs. Minnesota, Nov. 22, 2014
- Quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. completed 12-of-19 passes for 223 yards and one touchdown. With his 223 passing yards in today’s game, Armstrong increased his season passing total to 2,112 to move into seventh place on the Nebraska single-season passing list. Armstrong increased his career passing total to 3,078 good for 10th on the career passing list.
- Armstrong also rushed 12 times for 45 yards and increased his season total offense total to 2,745 moving him from ninth to sixth on the Nebraska single-season chart.
- Senior receiver Kenny Bell caught a season-long 73-yard pass on Nebraska’s opening drive of the game, setting up a Husker touchdown. The reception was one yard shy of his career long of 74 yards at Ohio State in 2012.
- The 73-yard reception by Bell from Tommy Armstrong Jr. marked Nebraska’s longest play from scrimmage in 2014, bettering a 70-yard touchdown pass from Armstrong to Jordan Westerkamp at Fresno State on Sept. 13.
- Randy Gregory’s blocked field goal was his second of the season and the fourth blocked kick by Nebraska in the past four games (2 FG, 2 punt).
- Gregory’s 10-yard sack to end the first half was his team-leading seventh of 2014, and gives him 17.5 career sacks. Gregory finished the day with eight total tackles, including two solo stops.
- Nate Gerry’s 85-yard return for a touchdown of the blocked field goal was his first career touchdown. The scoring play was the second-longest of the season for Nebraska, trailing only De’Mornay Pierson-El’s 86-yard punt return at Fresno State. Gerry added 11 tackles and a pair of pass breakups in the game.
- The blocked field goal return for a touchdown is believed to be the first in school history for Nebraska (game-by-game scoring was checked back to 1966). It was the first touchdown off a blocked kick of any kind since Justin Blatchford returned a blocked punt for a touchdown at Baylor in 2009.
- Nebraska I-back Ameer Abdullah rushed 20 times for 98 yards and one touchdown.
- Abdullah increased his season rushing total to 1,417 yards moving him into the No. 7 spot on the Nebraska season rushing list. Abdullah increased his career rushing total to 4,394 moving him within 386 yards of Mike Rozier’s school-record 4,780 rushing yards. Abdullah also increased his career all-purpose yardage total to 6,798, moving him within 202 yards of becoming the 11th player in NCAA history with 7,000 career all-purpose yards.
- Abdullah’s rushing touchdown in the first quarter was his 18th of the 2014 season, and his 20th overall touchdown this season. The 18 rushing touchdowns are tied for fifth on the NU season list, while the 20 overall touchdowns are tied for fourth. The touchdown was the 46th of Abdullah’s career (38 rushing), moving him past Ahman Green and alone into third place on the NU career touchdowns list.
- Abdullah has scored 120 points this season, tying him with Eric Crouch (2000) for fourth place on Nebraska’s season scoring list. He increased his career scoring total to 276 points, good for sixth in school history.
- Jordan Westerkamp’s 47 receiving yards increased his season receiving yardage total to 653 yards, leaving him 57 yards shy of the single-season top 10 on the yardage list.
