In continuing efforts to address relevant topics of particular importance to college students, the Nebraska Life Skills Department has hosted multiple Financial Education Seminars this fall semester. The goal of the seminar is to assist student-athletes with developing good financial practices and habits.
John Oestreich, a Managing Principal at Waddell & Reed, Inc., led the seminars and discussed topics such as money management, investing principles and goal setting. “The same qualities and characteristics of a strong student athlete are the same traits it takes to be sound with money. There are choices we all make when it comes to money, being educated about some of the core principles can make all the difference in the world financially.”
Lotte Sjulin from the Husker Softball team attended one of the seminars, “To me, financial education is so important to learn because it will lay the foundation of our future. Our ability to understand this information while we are young and have time will only enable us to succeed in greater measures in the future. Money, income, and saving is part of every person’s life and therefore being educated will allow us to make decisions that enable us to live comfortably and provide for our families”.
The Nebraska Life Skills Department plans on hosting Financial Education Seminars every fall semester to make certain that all Nebraska student-athletes receive critical proactive education.
