Pre-Wisconsin
Givens Price
Junior, Offensive Lineman
On Wisconsin’s defense being ranked No. 1
“They are really good up front. Their linebackers play well. They have a very well-coached defense. Their safeties are all really good. From watching film I can see that they go out there and react fast, they move a lot. If we can react to how they move we will be OK.”
On Wisconsin’s fast defense
“Our technique is really meant to help us go against any defense. But at the end of the day, you have to play with your head and your eyes and react to speed. Yes, they are fast, but I feel like if we rely on our technique and use our snap count as a weapon, I think we will be OK.”
On Wisconsin’s atmosphere
“I have no idea, I have never been there before. From what I have heard, it’s loud, crazy and hectic. I’ve been to some big stadiums when I’ve traveled, and our stadium is just as big from my understanding. You try to not pay attention to the noise. Just go out there and play, so that’s what I plan on doing.”
On the loss to Wisconsin in 2012
“Whether you play or not, I am still a Cornhusker. Seeing the loss after the preparation that we had put in that week, just shows how we beat ourselves offensively. That’s been one of our things, is not shooting ourselves in the foot. I think we have done a fairly good job of that this season. Just going out and finishing the season starts with this game. As far as the game that happened at the Big Ten Championship, it left a bitter taste in our mouth that we haven’t been able to get rid of since then. This game will be a great opportunity to do so.”
On the rivalry between Ameer Abdullah and Melvin Gordon
“I tell Ameer (Abdullah) almost every game that I do what I do for him and Tommy (Armstrong) and the rest of the guys I’m next to. It will be another game of just going out there and seeing how many rushing yards we can get Ameer and Tommy on the ground. That’s what we build our offense on is establishing a run, and if we can do that it will be a good game. It will be the same thing for Wisconsin to see what the offensive line can do for Melvin (Gordon), but the game will be decided in the trenches.”
On his personal role for the Wisconsin game
“My mindset is to just go out and continue to perfect my game and continue to improve and help the team improve. I talk to guys and try to improve our communication. Then when Saturday arrives, just go out there and be ready to go when coach calls my name.”
On Husker defensive lineman Maliek Collins
“From the first time I met him, he has always been a really quiet guy, but very focused and fast and strong. Just seeing him last season, it kind of hit me like, ‘this guy is a freshman and he is doing really well, and he has plenty of years to get better.’ It really hit me when I was playing guard and I went against him almost all of spring ball. It hit me hard that this kid is going to be really good.”
