Des Moines, Iowa - The Huskers had a successful day two at the Drake Jamboree, as both doubles teams earned victories over their opponents. Singles play resulted in a 4-3 record for the day with sophomore Mary Hanna and redshirt freshman Katerina Matysova leading the way.
Hanna battled Alexa Brandt of Bradley through three sets and came away with the win, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 and then went on to beat Adrienne Jensen of Drake in a 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory. Matysova also brought home NU victories as she bested BU's Aimee Manfredo, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 and outplayed MckenzieThomas of Southern Illinois 6-3, 6-2.
Spurti Shivalingaiah fell short to BU's Ariel Dechter, 7-5, 6-3. Mackenna Maddox faced Ashley Thai of BU but fell short in a 7-5, 6-3 loss. Maddox was also defeated by Lea Kozulic of Drake, 6-1, 6-3.
The Huskers dominated Southern Illinois in doubles play as both NU pairs came away with victories. Hanna and Shivalingaiah defeated Kali Donner and Mia Frogner, 8-6 while Maddox and Matysova won 6-4 over Lexi Aranda and Sierra Halverson as the match was retired.
Play resumes Sunday with doubles beginning at 8 a.m. followed by singles at 11 a.m. Results will be posted on Huskers.com concluding play.
