Des Moines, Iowa – The Nebraska Women’s tennis team opened its last tournament of the fall season with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles during first-day action at the Drake Jamboree at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
The Huskers opened the day recording a 2-2 record in singles. Junior Mackenna Maddox defeated Mckenzie Thomas of Southern Illinois, 6-4, 6-1, while redshirt freshman Katerina Matysova ousted Creighton’s Amanda Noonan, 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Mary Hanna was defeated by Iva Bago of Kansas State, 6-4, 7-6 (0), while redshirt freshman Spurti Shivalingaiah defeated Creighton’s Katherine Nelson, 6-4, 6-2.
Nebraska overpowered Kansas State in the first round of doubles. Hanna and Shivalingaiah teamed up to face Maria Panaite and Amina St. Hill and dominated with an 8-2 victory. Maddox and Matysova outplayed Iva Bago and Laura Hopton to come away with the 8-2 win.
Nebraska faced Iowa in the second round of doubles. Maddox and Matysova continued their success by defeating Aimee Tarun and Katie Zordani, 8-6. Hanna and Shivalingaiah were defeated by Annette Dohanics and Anastasia Reimchen, 8-3.
Play resumes Saturday at 9 a.m. with doubles and continue with singles at 10 a.m and 2 p.m.
