Nebraska's Dusty Boyer dropped a hard-fought, three-set match to Minnesota's Jack Hamburg in the third round at the USTA/ITA Central Regional in Norman on Sunday.
Boyer, a junior from Ham Lake, Minn., won the first set against Hamburg, 6-4, but dropped a narrow 7-6 (2) decision in the second set. The No. 13 seed Hamburg outlasted the sixth-seeded Boyer in the third set, 6-2, to advance to Sunday's quarterfinals.
Boyer's loss ended Nebraska's stay in the singles competition.
In doubles action at the regional, Boyer and Bradford Zitsch finished the tournament 2-1, dropping an 8-6 decision to the Gopher duo of Leandro Toledo and Felix Corwin in the quarterfinals.
The Big Red team of Linus Erhart and Scott Elsass dropped a nail-biter in the quarterfinals to Minnesota's tandem of Hamburg and Matheiu Froment, 8-7 (6).
