Huskers Close First Round in Colorado

Vail, Colo. - Jordan Chael and Morgan Smejkal each shot opening rounds of 76 to help the Nebraska women's golf team to a tie for 11th after the first day of the GolfWeek Conference Challenge at the Red Sky Golf Club on Monday afternoon.

The Huskers finished the round with a 309, including a 78 from Cassidy Stelzmiller and a 79 from freshman Emily Gillman, who made her first career appearance in the Husker lineup. Gillman was a late replacement for fellow freshman Audrey Judd.

Junior Cassie Deeg rounded out the NU contingent in the first round with an 82.

Pepperdine owns a one-shot lead over Tennessee heading into Tuesday's second round. The Waves fired a four-under-par 284 over the first 18 holes, while the Lady Vols added a three-under 285. Campbell sits in third at 290.
