Kansas City, Mo. - The Nebraska women's tennis team saw a full day of matches at the Mizzou Tennis Invite on Friday to begin the weekend event. Nebraska began the day with doubles against Mississippi State at 9 a.m. then Columbia University at 10:30 a.m. before closing the day in singles against Mizzou at 1:30 p.m.
Nebraska kicked things off with doubles against Mississippi State to start the event. Naomi Tran and Martina Frantova of Mississippi State teamed up to defeat Maggy Lehmicke and Mary Hanna 8-5 while fellow Bulldogs Georgiana Patrasc and Timea Guibe edged out NU’s Lisa Andersson and Spurti Shivalingaiah 8-4. Katerina Matysova and Mackenna Maddox battled but fell to Alexandra Corder and Jennifer Brown 8-7 (4).
In the second round of doubles Nebraska faced No. 39 ITA pre-season ranked Columbia University. NU’s lone senior Izabella Zgierska teamed up with junior Lauren Wagner to defeat Laura MacMullin and Amy Li 8-4. Wagner then teamed up with Matysova to defeat MacMullin and Vivian Cheng 8-5. Lehmicke and Andersson fell to Kanika Vaidya and Alexandra Solovyev 8-5 while Rima Asatrian and Adi Milstein edged out Hanna and Maddox 8-6. Shivalingaiah and Zgierska paired up to face Crystal Leung and Amy Li and were defeated 8-7(5).
Nebraska finished the day on the singles court facing Mizzou. NU’s Lehmicke faced Kelli Hine in a battle of the No.1's and came out on top with a 7-6, 6-4 victory. Zgierska’s senior leadership showed in her 6-4, 6-3 victory over Brianna Lashway while Andersson out-played Brittany Lashway with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 win. Cassidy Spearman overcame Maddox 6-2, 6-1 as fellow Tiger Alex Clark defeated Shivalingaiah 6-2, 6-0. Hanna fell to Beatriz Machado Santos 6-3, 6-3 and Wagner was defeated by Columbia's Amy Li 6-4, 6-2.
The Huskers will continue play on Saturday beginning with doubles at 9:00 a.m. against Missouri followed by doubles against Mississippi State at 10:30 a.m. Saturday’s action will conclude with singles action against Columbia University at 1:30 p.m.
