Former Nebraska first-team All-American Jordan Hooper will have her high school girls basketball jersey retired tonight in Alliance, Neb.
Hooper, who were No. 35 on the court at Alliance High School before wearing that same number as a four-year starter for Coach Connie Yori's Huskers, will be honored during an on-court ceremony before Alliance's volleyball game tonight with Sidney.
Hooper will be heading to Turkey soon to continue her professional basketball career after completing her first WNBA season on the court with the Tulsa Shock.
A first-team WBCA All-American after leading the Huskers to their third consecutive NCAA Tournament, Hooper was the 2014 Big Ten Player of the Year. The three-time first-team All-Big Ten selection powered Nebraska to the 2013 NCAA Sweet 16.
As a Husker, Hooper scored 2,357 points to rank second in school history to only 1993 Wade Trophy winner Karen Jennings (2,405). Hooper also finished No. 2 in school history with 1,110 rebounds. The 6-2 forward connected on a school-record 295 three-pointers while starting all 131 games of her four-year Husker career.
She also represented both the city of Alliance and the state of Nebraska as a starter on the gold medal-winning USA Basketball's Women's World University Games team in Russia in the summer of 2013.
A three-time academic All-Big Ten selection, Hooper earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from Nebraska in May of 2014, before being drafted with the first pick of the second round of the 2014 WNBA Draft by the Shock. She averaged 5.8 points per game in her first season with the Shock.
As an Alliance Bulldog basketball player, Hooper was a three-time first-team Super State selection by the Lincoln Journal-Star and a three-time first-team All-Nebraska choice by the Omaha World-Herald. She led Alliance to a Class B state championship in 2007, a runner-up finish in 2008, and third-place finishes in 2009 and 2010. She scored a startling 271 points in her four years at the state tournament.
A two-time Nebraska Gatorade High School Player of the Year (2008, 2010), Hooper finished her four-year high school career 2,078 points and 1,337 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Hooper was also an outstanding volleyball player and track and field athlete at Alliance, winning the Class B state championship in the long jump in 2010.
