Huskers in the NFL Week 2

Week 2 of the NFL season was highlighted by several former Huskers making standout plays and contributing to momentous wins.

Niles Paul helped lead the Washington Redskins to an impressive 41-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, also ending their nine-game regular-season losing streak. Paul played for sidelined tight end, Jordan Reed who was out with a hamstring injury. Paul had a touchdown catch and also set career highs with eight catches for 99 yards.

Fellow Redskins also made impacts in the win over the Jaguars. Running back Roy Helu left the game early with a strained quad muscle but had two catches for 11 yards and 25 total rushing yards before he left the game. Linebacker Will Compton had one tackle and one assist to contribute to the Redskins win.

In his third season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lavonte David had five tackles and two assists in the game against the St. Louis Rams.

Jason Ankrah made his NFL debut for the Houston Texans and had one tackle at the defensive end position. The Texans defeated the Oakland Raiders 30-14. Ankrah completed a successful career at Nebraska, culminating in 2013 when he started all 13 games his senior season. Ankrah finished the season with 36 tackles, while his nine tackles for loss ranked third for the Huskers. He added four sacks and had an interception against Illinois. Ankrah’s play in 2013 earned him honorable mention All-Big Ten accolades from both the media and the coaches.
