Nebraska Football
Weekly Press Conference
Monday, Sept. 15, 2014
Memorial Stadium (Lincoln, Neb.)
Pre-Miami
On his performance so far
“I would give myself a C. I’m just not all the way there. I’ve had some plays I’ve left on the field, just not making right reads. I need to make sure I’m all the way there during games and not just zoning in on one person.”
On plan for Miami
“I think it’s going to be like every other week. We are going to take what they give us. We are going to play our offense and they are going to play their defense. We just have to execute. That’s the main plan every weekend. If we execute, that’s how we win games.
On history between Miami and Nebraska
“I know they used to meet up for a National Championship. It’s a big thing when it comes to playing Miami because of the tradition, but we are not looking back on that. We are just going to play like any other week and prepare the right way. It’s a normal game for us.”
On preparation for the Miami game
“When we prepare the right way we are dangerous. We know it and the coaches know it. I don’t think anybody can stop us and that’s just a fact.”
On physicality in games
“I want to make sure that I make a statement. I want to get hard yardage. I call our group the throwing running backs because we need to be physical and get yards and sometimes they want us to run on third-and-eight or third-and-nine and we have to make sure that we can get those yards and get that down. So we have to make sure we can be physical.”
On Armstrong’s stiff arm against Fresno State
“Honestly, I thank Coach (Ron) Brown. He always tells us we need to practice our running back skills and practice our stiff arms. Getting north and south and tucking the football. We've been doing a bunch of running back drills and its helping us a lot by teaching us how to take care of the football.”
On the offensive line in the first three games
“They’ve been doing a good job. They’ve been getting a lot thrown at them. We’ve played some teams that’s blitzed a lot of guys, but the more we get into the conference we’re not going to see certain things that we’ve seen so far. But they’ve been doing a good job of blocking what they see.”
On Miami’s true freshman quarterback
“It’s tough. I played against our defense as a redshirt freshman and it’s hard to get thrown out there, coming from high school. We know going into this game it’s going to be a dog fight and the best teams going to win. Whatever they give us we are just going to go with it.”
