On yesterday’s meeting
“The meeting yesterday was more listening. We didn’t do a lot of talking. It was a humbling experience. It was pretty disappointing for us. We put it all on the film and saw what we did. We let our coaches down. We got out of it, but at the end of the day, if it was any other team we would have lost. It was just a big disappointment. For us as leaders and me as the quarterback, to put our offense in that situation was just a huge disappointment.”
On his performance
“I felt like I didn’t have my offense prepared well and I take blame for it because it all starts off with me and it’s something that I can’t let happen. It’s tough to learn from, but at the end of the day we just have to drive on and fix those mistakes. Ameer (Abdullah) has told us a bunch of times that you have to respect the game. We can’t take any team lightly. We have to prepare every week as if were playing the No. 1 team in the nation.”
On the interception
“We were sluggish on offense. That interception happened and we responded, but then it was on me. I should have hit my outside receiver. That was the momentum shift in the game. When they tied it up, we could have easily went up 21-7. As a whole, as an offense, we just didn’t execute. We got comfortable. We need to understand that everyone has a job, and if you’re not doing your job it’s going to show up on film.”
On the injuries
“We had guys that stepped up in the fall and it’s time for them to step up now. This is what we prepare for. We have a bunch of guys who are down and out in the receiver position and it’s just time for guys to step up and make plays when their number is called.”
On being accountable
“Like I said, it starts with me. I’m the quarterback. I wear this shirt loud and proud. If I’m not playing my heart out in the game, we can’t get wins. If I play the game like this again, we won’t win. I just need to prepare my offense the right way and make sure we are at the top of our game next Saturday.”
On mistakes in the McNeese State game
“We had miscommunications here and there. The offense struggled. I struggled. We all had a part in what was going on but at the end of the day it all start with me. It’s something that I can fix going into practice tomorrow. It’s going to humble us a lot.”
On the next game
“I’m looking forward to the new atmosphere and overcoming certain things. It’s going to be different not having the crowd on our side, but it’s going to help us because when we go out to Fresno it’s going to be us against thousands of fans. It’s a lot to look forward to. We need to execute to put points on the board. It’s going to be a long trip back if we don’t play how we’re supposed to play. We are on a mission. It’s not fun and games when we go away. We are on a mission, and that mission is to win.”
On Alonzo Moore
“That guy’s an athlete. He’s a freak. Once he understands the game and understands that you just go out there and have fun, he’s going to be something to watch.”
