Nebraska vs. Iowa, Nov. 29, 2013

- The loss dropped Nebraska to 8-4 overall and 5-3 in Big Ten Conference play. The Huskers lost for just the sixth time in the past 24 years on Black Friday and for the first time in Bo Pelini’s six seasons as head coach. The loss ended a five-game Nebraska win streak over Iowa and dropped the Huskers to 28-13-3 all-time against the Hawkeyes. Nebraska dropped to 19-6 under Pelini in November games, including 3-2 in 2013.

- Junior I-back Ameer Abdullah rushed 23 times for 85 yards and a five-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. With his 85 rushing yards, Abdullah increased his season rushing total to 1,568 yards and recorded just the fifth 1,500-yard rushing season in school history.

 - Abdullah increased his career rushing total to 2,855 yards, moving him up two spots to ninth on the Nebraska career rushing list. In today’s game, Abdullah passed Lawrence Phillips (2,777 yards) and I.M. Hipp (2,814 yards). 

- Abdullah’s 85 rushing yards were a season low and marked just the second time this season he was held below 100 rushing yards (also 98 vs. UCLA). Abdullah had a streak of eight straight 100-yard rushing games end, as well as his bid to rush for 100 yards in all eight Big Ten Conference games. His eight straight 100-yard rushing games tied for the fourth-longest streak in school history.

The 10 100-yard rushing games for Abdullah are the fourth-most in a season in Nebraska history, one behind the record of 11 held by Mike Rozier (1983), Lawrence Phillips (1994) and Ahman Green (1997).

 

Nebraska junior Kenny Bell had seven receptions for 67 yards. The seven receptions tied a season high, as he also caught seven balls against both Wyoming and Michigan State. Bell increased his season receptions total to 51 to rank seventh on the NU single-season receptions list. Bell caught 50 passes last season and has now joined Johnny Rodgers as the only players in Nebraska history with two 50-catch seasons.

Bell increased his career receptions total to 133 moving him within three receptions of third place on the career receptions list. Terrence Nunn is third with 136 career receptions, Marlon Lucky is fourth at 135 and Bell is now fifth with his 133 receptions. 

- Senior receiver Quincy Enunwa had three receptions for 46 yards in today’s game, including a 15-yard TD reception in the fourth quarter. Enunwa’s 10 touchdown receptions are tied for second on the Nebraska season TD receptions list. Nate Swift also caught 10 touchdown passes in 2008, while the school record of 11 touchdown receptions is held by Johnny Rodgers in 1971.

- Enunwa increased his season receptions total to 47. With his 46 receiving yards, Enunwa moved his season yardage total to 624 yards, moving him within 41 yards of the top 10 on the NU single-season receiving yardage list.

- Nebraska redshirt freshman linebacker Michael Rose finished the game with a career-high 16 tackles, bettering his previous high of 11 against Illinois. His 16 tackles are the most by any Husker this year, bettering David Santos’ 13 tackles at Minnesota. Rose had a season-high three tackles for loss. Rose entered today’s game with two tackles for loss on the season.

- Nebraska sophomore defensive end Randy Gregory recorded a three-yard sack in the first quarter to increase his season total to 9.5 sacks, including 9.0 in conference play. Gregory finished the game with five total tackles, including one tackle for loss to increase his season TFL total to 17.

- Nebraska redshirt freshman defensive tackle Vincent Valentine finished today’s game with five tackles, including an eight-yard sack and two tackles for loss. Today’s game marked the first multi-TFL game of Valentine’s career.

- Nebraska recorded 2.0 sacks as a team in today’s game, giving the Huskers’ 35.0 total sacks on the season.

Nebraska was minus-3 in turnover margin in today’s game, marking the seventh straight game Nebraska has had a negative turnover margin.
