Huskers Look to Punch Ticket to NCAA?s

The Nebraska cross country team is set to compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Ames, Iowa on Friday afternoon. Hosted by Iowa State, the meet will begin with the men’s race starting at noon (Central), with the women’s race following.

Head Coach David Harris is excited to see what the young group of Huskers can do at such a high caliber meet. Harris noted that the men will look to come back strong after their appearance at the Big Ten Championships two weeks ago.

“I think we want a little bit of redemption and to get back up on the horse after the Big Ten Championships.” Harris said. “We kind of got bumped off. We did not run well there, I think we have a chip on our shoulder from that.”

With the NCAA Regional marking what could be the end of the 2013 season for the Huskers, Harris believes that the Huskers are capable of a great performance at the meet.

“We are trying the finish the year with a good meet and I think both the men’s and women’s teams are definitely capable of it,” Harris said. “As I have said all along this year, the team has progressed really well, they have won some meets and learned how to compete better. We are also training better, which all should count for better racing at the Regional.”

On the women’s side, Harris hopes the team can break into the top 15 of competition, noting that the women are the healthiest they have been all season.

“We had a little success at the Big Ten, now we are going to try and build on that at the Regional,” Harris said. “I think the goal is to try and get into the top 15, we are as healthy as we have been this entire season. We have recovered from some injuries and we have been training well.”
