Furlan Shines at Mt. SAC Relays

The Mt. SAC Relays continued on Thursday in Walnut, Calif., as Jessica Furlan took to the track in dominant fashion.

Furlan was the top collegiate finisher and recorded a third-place finish in the women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase invite elite division with a personal-best time of 9:58.52. Her time ranks third in the nation and first in the Big Ten entering this weekend. She already held the No. 2 spot on the all-time record list at Nebraska, but with her time on Thursday she moves closer to the Nebraska record of 9:39.35.

In the multi-event action, Anne Martin finished second in the heptathlon for the Huskers as she recorded a personal-best 5,321 points over two days of competition. She posted a jump of 18-5 (5.61) in the long jump to start the day and followed that performance with an event-best throw of 128-4 (39.11) in the javelin. Martin finished with a time of 2:23.26 in the 800 meters.

Jordan Stiens completed heptathlon action with a 13th-place finish and 4,849 points. She began her day with a leap of 17-7 (5.36) in the long jump, while recording a throw of 104-00 (31.70) in the javelin. Stiens posted a time of 2:27.93 in the 800 meters to close the final event of the two days of competition.

Teran Walford completed two-day decathlon action with a second-place finish and a personal-best total of 7,330 points. He started the day with a personal-best time of 14.67 in the 110 meter hurdles, before a discus throw of 130-7 (39.81). Walford then posted a personal-best pole vault of 15-1 (4.60), followed by a javelin throw of 153-4 (46.74). He completed the day with a time of 4:35.21 in the 1,500 meters.  

 In other events on the track, Jarren Heng finished with a time of 9:17.09 in the men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase Olympic development section.
