Pre-Wisconsin (Big Ten
Championship)
On playing the game
inside
“Happy
to be indoors, especially after the Iowa game. It’s supposed to be in the 70s
and having no wind will be nice.”
On how the weather affected
Friday’s game
“It
affected the game a lot. It was miserable.”
Have you ever played
in a game like that
“Never.
I think I saw in the Daily Nebraskan that the mind was 26 mph.”
On how they will be
able to feature the offense in a climate controlled stadium
“It
should help us out tremendously. Hopefully we can go out there and run our
offense.”
What do you remember
about the first meeting with Wisconsin
“We
started out really slow. It we go fast we should be fine.”
What affected the
game the most on Friday
“We
couldn’t really run our offense. We couldn’t pass the ball at all with the
wind. “
Using the screens
that they used against Minnesota
“It
all depends on what Coach (Tim) Beck wants to do. With the wind, he wanted to
run the ball.
What’s the attitude in
the lockerroom
“We’re
all really excited. We’ve been trying to reach this for a long time. This
(winning a conference title) hasn’t been done since 1999, so we’re happy to
have the chance to win one.”
Lessons from the 2010
Big 12 Championship game
“This
time I’m healthy, which I’m happy about. We started out fast against Oklahoma
and we need to do that again.”
On his mentality
going into the game
“As
a team, we feel great. I think we have a lot of confidence in ourselves. Our defense,
offense and special are playing well. Our offense didn’t play well at Iowa, but
I think we’ll be fine against Wisconsin.”
On Wisconsin’s
linebackers
“They
have some of the top linebackers in the
league. They have a great defense.”
What makes them good
“They’ve
been there for a long time. They know how to get to, and attack the ball.”
On playing with a
different center
“It
isn’t a big deal because I get reps with all of them at practice. I have a good
relationship with both Cole (Pensick) and Mark (Pelini).”
Is there more
confidence against Wisconsin because they are 7-5
“Not
really. They went into overtime their last few games. They are a really good
team.
On playing at the
Rose Bowl as being a native of California
“It
means a lot, because we lost to UCLA at the Rose Bowl. I want to go back there
and get a win.”
On any preference on
who wins the Pac-12 Championship.
“That
doesn’t matter to me. We need to beat Wisconsin.”
On his individual
growth this year
“It’s
been awesome. I think I’ve had a good year so far. We just need to keep it
going and win the Big Ten Championship.”
Do you feel more
comfortable with Rex Burkhead in the backfield on third down
“No,
not really. They (our I-backs) are all good pass blockers.”
On his reps with the
other centers
“At practice it’s probably 50 percent with
Justin (Jackson) and 25 percent with each of the other guys. I work every day
with Cole (Pensick) and Mark (Pelini).”
