McMillan Qualifies for 2012 London Olympic Games

Lincoln, Neb. - Five-time All-American Chantae McMillan qualified for the 2012 London Olympic Games on Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. McMillan tallied a total of 6,188 points to finish third in the standings and secure her first Olympic bid.

On the first day of competition McMillan, a four-time Big 12 Champion, posted a time of 13.36 in the 100 meter hurdles, while tabbing a leap of 5-7 3/4 (1.72) in the high jump. She recorded a throw of 49-3 1/2 (15.02) in the shot put and then notched a time of 24.32 in the 200 meters. Coming into the second day of heptathlon action, McMillan recorded a mark of 18-1 1/2 (5.52) in the long jump and tabbed a throw of 164-10 (50.24) in the javelin.

Heading into the final event, the 800 meters, she had a total of 5,333 points and needed to record a time of 2:20.51 to finish with the Olympic A Standard of 6,150 points.

McMillan came out strong in the 800 meters and finished with a personal-best time of 2:17.71. With the time, she secured the Olympic A Standard and became a United States Olympian.

"I wanted to run for a purpose, God was the only thing on my mind and I knew we would get through this together," McMillan said.
