The Husker Life Skills staff has finalized the 2012-2013 Calendar of Events which will includes modifications to some past staple events and as well as the introduction of new programming. The year will kickoff the afternoon before fall classes at UNL begin with a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Retreat on Sunday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m. SAAC President and Golf student-athlete, Neil Dufford is planning the event which will help bring the SAAC members together while establishing goals and priorities for the upcoming academic year.
Athletic Director Tom Osborne will once again address the entire student-athlete population for two assemblies beginning at 7 a.m. at the Champions Club on August 30 and January 24.
The Senior Career Clinics and Tom Osborne Senior Session have been collaborated into one cohesive senior career event which will take place on Sunday, September 16 in the Student Life Complex.
The much anticipated Student-Athlete Career Fair will once again lead-off UNL's Career Week as the athlete specific job fair is scheduled for Monday, October 1 at 7 p.m. in the West Stadium Club.
Student-athletes interested in exploring graduate and medical school options will have two events to attend. The "Considering Graduate School?" Panel will be held on October 9, 2012, with the annual Medical School Panel set for the spring on March 11 at 7:30 p.m. Former football student-athlete and current Dean of UNMC Admissions, Dr. Jeff Hill will participate in both events.
On Sunday, March 31, both a Freshman Financial Series and Junior Financial Forum will be hosted in the Student-Life Complex addressing the ever importance topic of money.
The Life Skills staff will continue to meet individually with every student-athlete creating or updating resumes and discussing future career plans. All new student-athletes will be attending the Husker Life Seminar starting Sunday, August 26. The first class period will feature Life Skills Theatre. New to the theatre, this year, will include skits created by a team of Husker student-athletes who will also serve as the performers. The skits will focus on a number of life skills topics ranging from compliance, academic integrity, involvement, life after sport, coach dynamics, party behaviors and more.
