Former Husker Asbaty-Hyman Wins 2012 Queens Title

Former Nebraska bowler Diandra Asbaty (formerly Hyman) won the USBC 2012 Queens Championship in Arlington, Texas at the International Training and Research Center on Tuesday night. The three-time NTCA All-American and former National Collegiate Bowler of the Year defeated USBC Hall-of-Famer Carolyn Dorin Ballard, 244-227 to win the championship. The win marks Asbaty-Hyman's first career major victory.

Asbaty-Hyman had to strike with her first throw in the tenth frame, after stringing together five strikes prior, to seal the victory Tuesday evening. The 14-time member of Team USA did just that to conclude the event.

Earlier in the day, Asbaty-Hyman defeated Liz Johnson (233-191) and Stefanie Nation (270-185) to advance to the event's championship.

Asbaty-Hyman had a stellar career at Nebraska, earning the 2002 Student Athlete of the Year award and amassing three selections to the NTCA All-American team, three selections to the NTCA Academic All-American team and is the 2000 National Collegiate Bowler of the Year. Asbaty-Hyman is second all-time at Nebraska with 63,065 pinfall and is second all-time in event appearances. Individually, Asbaty-Hyman earned 20 top-ten finishes at NU, along with four event titles.

A 131 women's bowlers competed in the Queens, which featured a prize fund of $110,000.
