Speaker Lineup Announced for Leadership 101

Lincoln - Have an opportunity to learn from athletic, university and business leaders at the annual Big Red Academy's Leadership 101:  "Common Sense for Real Results" seminar which takes place on Friday, May 11th at the Nebraska Champions Club.

The 2012 lineup includes University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Harvey Perlman, Hall of Fame Volleyball Coach Terry Pettit, Home Instead Senior Care Co-Founder and Chairman Paul Hogan and Nebraska Defensive Coordinator John Papuchis.  The event is designed for individuals throughout the area who want to learn leadership principles from four individuals who have experienced a high level of success in varying fields. The Leadership 101 seminar will run from 7:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Cost of the seminar is $200 per person or $150 if three or more individuals from the same organization register. High school or college students can attend for $100. Individuals may sign up on-line at Huskers.com, while groups registering three or more individuals are asked to send their registration to the Big Red Football School (1 Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, NE 68588-0123) in the same envelope. Space is limited, so those interested in attending the seminar are encouraged to enroll soon.

Pettit ran one of the most successful programs in college athletics during his 23-year tenure as Nebraska's volleyball coach. The Huskers won 21 conference titles and made 18 consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament, winning the program's first national title in 1995. A 2009 AVCA Hall of Fame Inductee and three-time national coach of the year, he won 694 matches at Nebraska and coached 35 AVCA All-Americans, including two national players of the year, and three U.S. Olympians.  In 2003, he began Terry Pettit Coaching Enhancement and has since mentored volleyball coaches at numerous Division I programs.  In addition, he authored a book titled Talent and the Secret Life of Teams. At Leadership 101, he will talk about "Patterns in Extraordinary Teams and Leadership"

Hogan is the Co-Founder and Chairman of Home Instead Senior Care Network, an Omaha-based company which grew from one franchise he created with his wife Lori in Omaha in 1994 to nearly 900 franchise offices worldwide, with locations in 15 countries and Puerto Rico in 2012.  Prior to starting Home Instead Senior Care Network, Hogan began his franchising career with Merry Maids in 1985 and remained with the company until 1994. Hogan has a Bachelor's degree in business (specializing in finance) from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. At Leadership 101, he will speak on "Entrepreneurial Leadership - Expecting Results and Permitting Failure."

Perlman was named the Chancellor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on April 1, 2001, and had served as Interim Chancellor at UNL since July 16, 2000. A former dean of the University of Nebraska College of Law (1983-98), Perlman has also served as interim senior vice chancellor for academic affairs at UNL (1995-96).  A Nebraska native, Perlman was raised in York, and earned a bachelor of arts in history and a juris doctorate from the University of Nebraska.  His area of legal expertise lies in torts and intellectual property. He is a member of the Nebraska State and American Bar Associations and is a Life Fellow of the American Bar Association. He previously served as a member of the NCAA Board of Directors and is past chair of the Bowl Championship Series Presidential Oversight Committee. Perlman will speak on "Challenges of Leading an Institution with Multiple Purposes and Multiple Constituencies" at Leadership 101.

Papuchis enters his fifth season on Bo Pelini's Nebraska staff in 2012, and his first year as the Huskers' defensive coordinator. Papuchis was promoted to his current role in December of 2011.  In his first four years on staff, Papuchis tutored the defensive line and served as special teams coordinator, and also filled the role of recruiting coordinator in 2011. He has coached five players to all conference recognition and has played a major role in the development of All-American Alex Henery and All-Big Ten punter and place-kicker Brett Maher.
