Lincoln, Neb. - True freshman Jessie DeZiel continued her impressive streak of Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards on Monday, collecting her record fifth straight honor. DeZiel was honored after her performance in the Huskers' victory over No. 20 Washington, No. 22 Michigan and Southern Utah at the Masters Classic on Saturday, Feb. 11. Penn State's Sharaya Musser won Big Ten Gymnast of the Week for the second consecutive week.
DeZiel won her fourth all-around competition of the season by scoring a 39.450 and posting scores of 9.825 or higher on all four events. DeZiel tied teammate Janelle Giblin for the vault title by tying a career-high 9.925, while posting a team-high 9.85 on the beam to finish in second place. The Rogers, Minn., native finished fourth on the bars (9.85) and eighth on the floor (9.825).
DeZiel and the Huskers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 18, when they travel to Minneapolis, Minn., to take on the Minnesota Gophers for the second time this season. The Huskers previously defeated the Golden Gophers on Feb. 3 in Norman, Okla. Saturday's meet will air on the Big Ten Network on tape delay on Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
