Walk-On Class of 2012

In addition to an impressive group of scholarship signees, Nebraska has received commitments from 19 players who intend to join the football program as walk-ons in 2012. NCAA rules allow Nebraska to announce 18 of those players on Wednesday.?

The group includes 17 players from Nebraska and a Colorado prep standout. A common thread in the class is players coming from winning programs. Among the 18 walk-on prospects, nine played in at least the semifinals of the state playoffs in 2011, with five appearing in state championship games.

“The walk-on program has always been a key part of the success here at Nebraska,” Nebraska Head Coach Bo Pelini said. “We have had great success the past few years with former walk-ons becoming key contributors to our football team, and I think we have put together another group of outstanding young men that can add to that tradition.” ?

Jeff Jamrog, Nebraska’s Assistant Athletic Director for Football, who coordinates the walk-on program, feels this is one of the most talented group of walk-ons in recent years.

“In terms of high school accomplishments, talent, potential, intangibles and character, this group of 19 student-athletes will have a great opportunity to make their mark in our football program.”
