Jordan Hooper is hot. Not only is the 6-2 sophomore forward from Alliance, Neb., shooting nearly 55 percent from the field, nearly 44 percent from three-point range, and 80 percent from the free throw line over the last four games, she is also attracting national attention.
Hooper has won three Big Ten Player-of-the-Week awards in the last month and was the National Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com on Jan. 2.
J-Hoop, who calmly shrugs off the attention by saying "super-duper", ranks second in the Big Ten in both scoring and rebounding with 21.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, while averaging 28.5 points and 11.3 boards over the past four contests. She has helped the Huskers to a No. 19 national ranking and a 12-1 overall record.
Not surprisingly, super-duper Jordan Hooper has shot herself into the national spotlight. The articles on Hooper have started hitting the national media this week.
Here is a sampling of a few of my favorite recent articles this week from national media members.
- Hooper's 30-Point Games Nearly a Habit for Huskers (Eric Olson, AP)
- Sophomore Handling Expectations, Opponents
(Dan Hoppen, Omaha World-Herald) - Graham Hays (ESPN.com)
Keep your eyes out for Hooper and junior point guard Lindsey Moore on the updates of midseason National Player-of-the-Year watch lists. They might not both get on those lists yet, but they certainly have the attention of the national media now.
Keep spreading the word about this young group of Huskers.
Go Big Red!
