On the heels of Will Shields becoming Nebraska's latest College Football Hall-of-Fame inductee, Huskers.com has assembled a rare auction opportunity for Husker fans to bid on eight individually signed jerseys and one personally signed football. The names on all nine items are considered historic and carry certificates of authenticity for Nebraska's eight living legend Hall-of-Fame players and the Huskers' only living Hall-of-Fame coach.
Bidding for each jersey begins Monday, Dec. 12 and ends on Wednesday, Dec. 21, just in time for the most unique gift a proud Husker fan can receive during the holidays. Huskers.com is auctioning the eight Hall-of-Fame-signed jerseys in the order of each player's induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. First up is Forrest Behm, who turned 92 last summer and still lives in New York. Nebraska's living legends participating in this special auction are:
Forrest Behm #33 (inducted in 1988)
Bob "The Boomer" Brown #64 (inducted in 1993)
Rich Glover #79 (inducted in 1995)
Dave Rimington #50 (inducted in 1997)
Johnny "The Jet" Rodgers #20 (inducted in 2000)
Mike Rozier #30 (inducted in 2006)
Grant Wistrom #98 (inducted in 2009) and
Will Shields #75 (inducted in 2011)
The auction also includes a football signed by Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne, who was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1998 when the National Football Foundation waived its three-year automatic waiting period after he announced his retirement.
Bidding for each auctioned jersey begins at $500 and requires a minimum incremental bid of $10. Bidding for the autographed football, which includes a large College Football Hall-of-Fame logo, begins at $300 and also requires a minimum incremental bid of $10. The auction for Behm's jersey will end at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, followed by these other bidding deadlines on the same day: Brown at 2:10 p.m., Glover at 2:20 p.m., Rimington at 2:30 p.m., Rodgers at 2:40 p.m., Rozier at 2:50 p.m., Wistrom at 3:00 p.m. and Shields at 3:10 p.m. Bidding for the Osborne-autographed football will end at 3:20 p.m. on Dec. 21 as well.
After all nine of these auction items are individually finalized on Dec. 21, Huskers.com will launch another auction involving the same items beginning Dec. 22 and continuing through Jan. 6. There will be one big difference in the second auction, however. All nine items - the eight signed jerseys and the autographed football - will be auctioned in their entirety as a single block. The beginning bid will be $4,300, an aggregate price that matches the beginning bids in the individual auctions. Minimum incremental bids will be $25.
