David Earns More All-America Honors

The All-America accolades continued to roll in for senior linebacker Lavonte David on Thursday, as he was named to the Walter Camp All-America second team. Earlier in the week, David was named a first-team All-American by the AFCA on Monday, and he was selected as a first-team All-American by CBSSports.com for the second straight season on Wednesday.

A native of Miami, Fla., David was selected as the inaugural recipient of the Butkus-Fitzgerald Big Ten Linebacker of the Year award this fall. He was also a finalist for the Butkus Award, a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award and a quarterfinalist for the Lott Trophy. In 2011, David leads Nebraska with 122 tackles, 11 TFLs, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions. He ranks third in the Big Ten in tackles per game and 18th nationally.

In his two-year career, David has totaled 274 tackles, the fifth-highest total in school history. His 152 tackles in 2010 were a school record, and his 274 career tackles are the most ever among two-year players in Nebraska history. David's career average of 10.5 tackles per game ranks fifth among all active players nationally.

The most recent honors continue what has been a decorated career for the 6-1, 225-pound linebacker. IN addition to his accolades this season, David was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press in 2010, while also earning Big 12 Newcomer-of-the-Year honors. David will complete his Husker career against South Carolina in the Capital One Bowl in Orlando on Jan. 2. He would move into fourth place on Nebraska's all-time tackles chart with three tackles against South Carolina and could move into third place with 14 stops against the Gamecocks.
