In the aftermath of Nebraska's decisive win over Iowa in the first-ever Heroes Game, the Huskers learned they had lost a popular Blackshirt with the death of Sherwin Jarmon, who died in Houston at age 64. Husker stars Jerry Murtaugh and Jim McFarland shared their memories of Jarmon with the N-Sider Blog on Monday. On Tuesday, we talked to Brett Maher after he became the first kicker in 10 years to sweep first-team All-Big Ten Conference honors as both a place-kicker and a punter. Maher described how he has three definitive advisors - Kris Brown, Alex Henery and Kyle Larson - besides John Papuchis, his position coach.

Our Wednesday N-Sider zeroed in on one of our more unique fan stories. Gus Rodriquez, a cartoonist who became a Husker fan while living in Cuba, met a Nebraska cartoonist there and visited the heartland recently to talk to students and faculty at Peru (Neb.) State College. The next day, after touring Memorial Stadium, Gus was shocked to get a chance to meet his American idol, Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne. Make sure you take the time to read Strange Connection: Tom, Tommie and Havana. You'll get a kick out of this one. We ended the week with a Thursday N-Sider on how Husker fans show their love for Rex Appeal, then followed that with a Friday N-Sider on the football coaching staff's Great Communicator ... the one known for his character, charisma and credibility. You all know who he is. Finally, on Saturday, our N-Sider featured Mike Minter and Jason Peter, three ex-Huskers who have been reaching out to others, just like Steve Warren and Will Shields, Grant Wistrom and Dave Rimington.
