San Antonio, Texas - Steffi Neisen fired an even-par 72 to help the Nebraska women's golf team shoot its best round of the fall in the opening round of the Alamo Invitational on Sunday.
In addition to Neisen's strong round, which put the sophomore from New Prague, Minn., in a tie for ninth after the first 18 holes in the 14-team team invite at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, senior Madeleine Sheils contributed a one-over-par 73 to tie for 18th.
Freshman Shelby Martinek added another solid round for the Huskers with a two-over 74 to tie for 23rd, while senior Kayla Knopik produced a solid 75 to tie for 30.
Nebraska received five good scores on Sunday, with sophomore Katelyn Wright carding a 77 that did not count toward the Huskers' team total.
The Huskers' 294 marked its top team round of the fall and placed NU in a tie for fifth with Central Florida. TCU led the tournament after one round with an even-par 288 team total, while Kentucky sat in second at 290. The hosts from UTSA and Baylor were tied for third at 293.
Nebraska will play the second round at the Alamo Invitational on Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
