The Nebraska men's tennis team will hit the road this weekend when they travel south to Tulsa, Okla., to compete in the 2011 USTA/ITA Regional Championships. Play begins on Friday, Oct. 21 with the qualifying round. The main draw will begin on Saturday, Oct. 22 and run until Tuesday, Oct. 25. The tournament is held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of The University of Tulsa. The tournament will utilize all 18 courts (12 outdoors, 6 indoors). The round of 16 through the championship for all draws will be held indoors.
There are 17 teams competing in the tournament which include: Arkansas, Bradley, Creighton, Drake, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Saint Louis, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois, Tulsa, UMKC, Western Illinois and Wichita State.
The Huskers will begin their tournament with play on Saturday since they do not have anyone competing in the qualifying tournament. The winner of the regional automatically qualifies for the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships on Nov. 3-6 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
