Lincoln--- Head Coach Dan Kendig and the Nebraska women's gymnastics program announced their schedule for the 2012 season on Tuesday. The Huskers' schedule includes nine teams that finished last season ranked inside the top 25 nationally, with five of those teams inside the top 10.
Nebraska, which matched its best finish in school history in 2011, will welcome Denver, Missouri, Florida and Iowa State to the Devaney Center for regular-season meets during the 2012 season, along with hosting Michigan, Washington, and Southern Utah for the Masters Classic.
The Huskers, who have reached the NCAA Championships 11 out of the past 13 season, will take on perennial powerhouses Oklahoma Michigan, Florida, Utah and Arkansas, all of whom finished last season in the top 10. Oklahoma finished third at last year's NCAA Championships, one spot ahead of the Huskers, while Utah, Michigan and Florida finished at No. 5, 6 and 7, respectively. Arkansas was No. 10 at last year's championships.
In the five home competitions set for the Devaney Center, the Huskers will feature two duals on both Friday and Saturday nights, and one dual on a Sunday. This year's Masters Classic will be on Saturday, Feb. 11 starting at 6 p.m.
To open the season, NU will host the Denver Pioneers on Friday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. inside the Devaney Center, before traveling to Ames, Iowa to face off against former Big 12 Conference foe Iowa State on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m.
NU will then return home to take on the Missouri Tigers on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 6 p.m., before a pair of triangular meets the next two weekends. Up first for the Huskers is a trip to Norman, Okla., on Feb.3 for a meet that features Oklahoma, Minnesota and Texas Woman's. Nebraska will then return home for the annual Masters Classic on Feb. 11 against Michigan, Washington and Southern Utah.
The Huskers will take on Minnesota for the second time of the season on Feb. 18 in Minneapolis, Minn., before traveling to Fayetteville, Ark, for a meet with the Razorbacks on Feb. 24. Two out of the Huskers last three meets will take place at home, including a match up with Florida on March 4 and their last regular-season meet against Iowa State on March 16. Nebraska will travel to take on the Utah Utes on March 9 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Nebraska will head to Iowa City, Iowa for its first-ever trip to the Big Ten Championships on March 24. The annual conference meet is followed by an NCAA regional on April 7 and the NCAA Championships from April 20-22 in Gwinnett, Georgia.
