A trip of a lifetime.
As our European Tour comes to a close, my teammates and I take one last look out our plane's windows reminiscing with one another about the magnificent three countries we just visited - Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The past 10 days have flown by, but when I sit back and think about everything we saw, explored and experienced I cannot believe everything we did in just 10 days!
You, the Husker fans, have heard from my teammates about some of our daily adventures. From the breathtaking view on top of the ski jump overlooking Oslo, to the Vasa Museum in Stockholm and the hustle and bustle of Strogot Street in Copenhagen.
There is no doubt that every player, coach and staff member gained a better understanding and appreciation of European history and culture while on this trip. Not only did our European Tour allow us to see a part of the world that none of us had been to, but it also allowed us to grow as a team.
One of the more invaluable experiences we had on this trip was the unity and trust we gained in one another. This experience allowed us to bond and get to know each and every person on a more personal level. As a fifth year player, it was nice to be able to witness all our team's different personalities come together, and I know this experience will help immensely in our upcoming season.
This trip could not have been possible if it weren't for two very special groups - the Fastbreakers and the University of Nebraska Athletic Department. Words simply cannot express the gratitude my teammates and I have for all of the people who made this once-in-a-lifetime trip possible.
From our first game against the Swedish National Team to the final game against the Danish National Team, we have already made incredible strides that I think will have us better prepared for this upcoming season. And although we know we still have a lot of work ahead of us and a lot that we want to accomplish this upcoming season, we showed several glimpses of how great of a season we can have.
This European Tour is an experience our team will truly never forget. We have many stories, laughs and memories that will be cherished forever. So thank you all once again for making this trip a reality and for always supporting our team. I know this experience will help our team have a better season, and I cannot wait for you to watch us play this fall!
Go Big Red,
Kaitlyn Burke
