Christensen Earns CCL All-Star Bid

On Friday, July 1 the California Collegiate League (CCL) announced the Nebraska junior infielder Chad Christensen has been selected to the league's all-star game. The top 54 prospects (18 pitchers, 36 position players) will meet at Casey Stengel Field in Glendale, Calif., on July 13 for a 8 p.m. (CT) showdown.

A member of the San Luis Obispo Blues, Christensen has helped the Blues to a 14-7 record as the squad trails the Santa Barbara Foresters by a half a game in the standing. Christensen has played in 22 games this season, including 21 starts, and is hitting .221 with a team-high seven doubles. He is also tied for the team lead in homeruns with two and is second on the team in RBIs with 15.

A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Christensen was one of three NU players to start all 55 games for the Huskers in 2011. He carried a .292 batting average with 61 hits and six doubles, while producing a .969 fielding percentage.

The CCL All-Star Game will be televised live nationwide on Fox Sports West and will be rebroadcast locally multiple time in July and August. Last year the game's broadcast was delivered live to 64 million homes and was the only live sporting event on television during primetime hours as the MLB schedule is dark the day after the MLB All-Star Game.
