Palo Alto, Calif. - While the Nebraska track and field team was hosting its lone home meet of the outdoor season on Sunday at Ed Weir Stadium, senior David Adams was at Stanford's Cobb Track and Angell Field to compete at the Payton Jordan Invitational. One of the top meets of the outdoor season for distance runners, Adams was one of four collegiate runners out of 22 total competitors to compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Adams placed 13th overall and third among collegiate runners with his time of 8:40.31. The time was a personal best for Adams as he bettered his previous best of 8:43.79, which he recorded at the 2009 Payton Jordan Invitational.
The top three times in the country were all ran on Sunday in Palo Alto and Adams' time ranks third in the nation. Oregon's Steve Finley now holds the top spot with his ninth-place time of 8:36.98 and Air Forces' Justin Tyner is second nationally with his 10th -place time of 8:37.54. On Nebraska's all-time outdoor performance list Adams moved up one spot form No. 6 to No. 5 as he jumped ahead of Brady Bonsall's 1995 time of 8:43.22.
The Huskers will finish the 2011 regular season next Saturday when they travel to Manhattan, Kan., for the one-day Ward Haylett Invitational.
