Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska men's golf team earned one of two Herman Awards, for highest team grade-point average, at the 21st annual Nebraska Student-Athlete Recognition Banquet Sunday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
"This is a tremendous honor," head coach Bill Spangler said. "We make it one of our team goals every year. The time demands, not only for a student-athlete but a golfer that travels as much as we do, really show how dedicated these guys are with their school work."
The men's golf team earned a team GPA of 3.422 for the year. The women's tennis team, who won the other Herman Award, had a team GPA of 3.541. The men's golf team had eight student-athletes earn Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades for their work in the classroom during the fall 2010 semester.
In addition to the Herman Award, sophomore Neil Dufford took home one of the Life Skills Hero Awards handed out Monday morning at the Hero Leadership Recognition Breakfast. The Life Skills Hero Awards honor Nebraska student-athletes across all teams who demonstrate outstanding leadership and citizenship while becoming role models in the process.
