McMillan Posts Personal-Best Score in California

Azusa, Calif. - While the rest of the Nebraska track and field team will be in competition this Saturday, multi-eventers Chantae McMillan and Bjorn Barrefors competed at the Mt. SAC Relays on Wednesday and Thursday.

McMillan started day one of the heptathlon with a personal best of 13.87 in the 100 hurdles, which bettered her previous best of 14.18. She then posted marks of 5-3 ¼ in the high jump, 44-8 in the shot put and 25.48 in the 200 meters to finish the first day of competition. A 2009 All-American in the heptathlon, McMillan sat fifth overall in the standing after one day but had the top score among collegiate competitors with 3,355 points.

Just like on day one, McMillan started day two with a personal best as she better her previous best of 20-1 in the long jump by seven inches with a leap of 20-8. The senior then finished the meet with a mark of 149-4 in the javelin and a time of 2:25.55 in the 800 meters to finish the meet with a personal-best score of 5,822 points.  McMillan's score was tops among collegiate multi-eventers and was third overall in the standings.

McMillan's score bettered her previous best of 5,583 points and moves her to No. 2 on NU's all-time performance list, as she trails Cris Hall's school-record score of 5,936 points.

Barrefors also posted a personal best on day one of the decathlon, as he bettered his previous best of 46-6 ¼ in the shot put by one half inch with a throw of 46-6 ¾. Barrefors also recorded marks of 11.17 in the 100 meters, 23-5 1/4 in the long jump, 6-5 ½ in the high jump and 50.87 in the 400 meters to finish day one in sixth place overall and fourth among collegiate competitors. Barrefors was unable to move up on the list day two as he fell to 10th overall and eighth among collegiate decathletes. The sophomore ended the two-day event with a score of 7,233 points.

The rest of the Huskers will compete at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Fla., and the Concordia Invitational in Seward, Neb., on Saturday. Check Huskers.com for more information.
