Huskers Return Home to Face No. 23 Cyclones
It's been a real pleasure watching center Catheryn Redmon blossom and replay the best basketball of her career. The 6-3 senior recorded her second straight double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds in last Saturday's loss at Kansas State. It was Cat's fifth double-double of the season and eighth of her career. She added five blocked shots for the second straight game and her season total of 44 is the fifth-best total by a senior in school history.
Over the last two games, Redmon has averaged 13.5 ppg, 15.5 rebounds and is the Big 12's leading rebounder in league games (10.8 rpg). The Nebraska Women's Basketball team hopes for continued stellar play from Cat as they return home to face #23 Iowa State Wednesday night in Lincoln.
Iowa State is 13-5 overall and 1-3 in Big 12 Conference play. The Cyclones have dropped two straight games since defeating the Huskers 64-43 in Ames two weeks ago. 6-1 senior guard Kelsey Bolte leads the Big 12 in three-pointers (55), free throw percentage (.905) and scoring in league-only games (23.5 ppg). She is the only player in the conference to score 20 or more points in her team's first four league games. She is 10th all-time at ISU with 1,393 points and is third among active Big 12 players in career scoring. Bolte scored 25 points in last Saturday's loss to Texas A&M. She also had a career-high 12 rebounds to record her third career double-double.
Bolte had a game-high 22 points, including four three-pointers in the second half, in ISU's win over the Huskers earlier this month. She leads the team in scoring (17.3 ppg) and steals. Iowa State is one of only two ranked teams to have only one player average double-figure scoring on the season.
6-7 sophomore forward Anna Prins had a double-double 18 point, 11 rebound effort against NU two weeks ago. She is second on the team in scoring (9.2 ppg) and leads the team in blocked shots. 6-3 freshman forward Hallie Christofferson leads all Big 12 freshmen in free throw percentage (.822) and is third on the team in scoring (9.0 ppg). 5-7 junior college transfer Lauren Mansfield was the first Cyclone newcomer to start at point guard in the season opener since 1997. She is second in the league with 6.2 assists per game and averages 8.5 pg.
The availability of 5-11 sophomore wing Jessica Schroll is in doubt as she is still recovering from a concussion suffered in the Nebraska game. 5-8 junior Chassidy Cole has started the last two games in her absence and averages 1.8 ppg. 6-2 sophomore forward Chelsea Poppens also sees significant playing time for ISU. She has drawn a team-leading 18 charges this year and leads the team in rebounding (7.1 rpg) and adds 8.2 ppg.
Wednesday night at Nebraska will mark the 500th career coaching game for veteran Iowa State Head Coach Bill Fennelly. He is in his 15th season at ISU.
Nebraska leads the all-time series with ISU 40-34 and has won six of the last seven games at the Devaney Center. NU holds a 21-11 all-time series record against the Cyclones in Lincoln.
