Huskers Debut in Top 25

Lincoln - The Nebraska track and field team will open the 2011 indoor season with both the men's and women's teams ranked in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association top 25. Released Thursday afternoon by the USTFCCCA, the Husker men will start the season ranked No. 12 in the country, while the women's squad is ranked No. 17. Florida holds the men's top spot, while Oregon is the top-ranked women's team.

In their last season in the Big 12 Conference, the Huskers will have a chance to improve on their conference-leading 22 team titles. The Husker men have won the past two outdoor team titles and won their last indoor crown in 2007. The women's squad is in search of its first indoor team title since it won back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2005.

The Big 12 Conference was well represented with eight teams ranked on the men's side and five on the women's side.

The Huskers are set to open the 2011 season next weekend when they host the Holiday Inn Invitational at the Devaney Center Indoor Track. Action will start on Friday, Jan. 14 at the 4 p.m. and continue on Saturday at Noon.
