Lincoln - A strong class of 23 Husker student-athletes will earn their bachelor's degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during commencement exercises at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday morning.
Nebraska's 23-member graduating class includes seven individual All-Americans who combined for 15 All-America awards across their sports during their time at Nebraska, including 2010 first-team Associated Press football All-Americans Prince Amukamara and Alex Henery. Amukamara and Henery headline the eight current and former members of Coach Bo Pelini's football program who will earn their diplomas, including Pierre Allen, Roy Helu Jr., Rickey Thenarse, Joe Broekemeier, Adam Watson and Cruz Barrett.
Sydney Anderson, a two-time All-America setter on Coach John Cook's Husker volleyball team, will also receive her degree on Saturday, as will former two-time All-American Stephen Dwyer from Coach Mark Manning's NU wrestling team.
Cassandra Leuthold, who was a four-time All-American for Coach Bill Straub's Nebraska bowling team, will also earn her degree. Leuthold was the 2010 NTCA National Player of the Year and was named the Most Outstanding Player at the 2009 NCAA Championships after leading the Huskers to the national title.
Husker women's gymnast Kylie Stone will also claim her degree. The three-time NCAA All-American was a major contributor to Coach Dan Kendig's squad, despite battling injuries during her time at NU.
Five members of Coach Gary Pepin's men's and women's track and field teams will earn their degrees, including two-time All-American Lehann Fourie, Lindsey Maher, Kellen McClure, Jamie Ryder and Alyssa Vierregger.
Three members of Coach Mike Anderson's baseball team will also pick up their diplomas, including Cody Neer, Mike Nesseth and Jordan Roualdes. Husker swimmer Kaitlin Arntz, men's tennis player Francois Van Impe and women's golfer Charlotte Wendner round out Nebraska's 2010 December graduating class.
The class provides an exciting mixture of student-athletes who came from near and far to call Nebraska home during their collegiate careers. Nebraska's 2010 December graduates came to Nebraska from 10 states, including seven native Nebraskans. Members of the graduating class also came from four foreign countries, including Belgium (Van Impe), Canada (Ryder, Stone), South Africa (Fourie) and Sweden (Wendner).
Nebraska continues to feature one of the highest graduation rates in the nation with an exhausted eligibility graduation rate of 95 percent, while leading the nation in the number of CoSIDA Academic All-Americans (279) and NCAA Top Eight Award winners (16) across all sports.
