Senior forward Jessica Periago  had a career-day, hitting all five or her three-point attempts but it wasn't enough as Nebraska saw its 37-game regular season win streak snapped at Indiana 67-61 Sunday afternoon.  Now 6-1 on the season, the Husker Women's Basketball team stays on the road; sort of.  They'll return to the state of Nebraska and head up Interstate 80 Wednesday night to face the Creighton Bluejays in Omaha.

Creighton is riding a three-game winning streak and has an overall record of 4-2.  Prior to beating South Dakota on the road last Thursday 79-70, the Bluejays handed Marquette their first loss of the season in an exciting 63-61 game in Omaha.  CU has won nine straight games at D.J. Sokol Arena and are 14-3 in the building since it opened for play last season.  The Bluejays are picked to finish third in Missouri Valley Conference league action.

Creighton has started the same lineup in all six games this season and the team is paced by 5-10 senior guard Kelsey Woodard.  She leads the team in scoring (14.2 ppg) and three-pointers (15/39 .385%).  Woodard  has made at least two three-pointers in every game this season.  6-0 senior forward Sam Schuett  is very familiar to Husker fans.  In the 2007 matchup against Nebraska in Lincoln, she torched the nets for a career-high 30 points and added 10 rebounds.  She was named first-team All-MVC last season goes into Wednesday night's game with 999 career points.  She'll become just the 23rd player in school history to reach the 1,000 point plateau. Schuett leads the team in rebounding (6.8 rpg) and assists and is second in scoring (9.7 ppg).

6-2 senior center Kellie Nelson is playing some of the best basketball of her career.  She averages 7.2 ppg and 3.8 rpg.  Her younger sister Sarah has emerged onto the scene in a big way for the Bluejays.  The 6-0 freshman plays significant minutes (24.2 mpg) coming off the bench and leads CU with a 47.4% field-goal percentage and five blocked shots.  She has the only double-double on the team this year and has led the team in rebounding three times this season.  Sarah Nelson averages 7.7 ppg and 5.5 rpg, and finished her prep career as the all-time leading scorer in Omaha Westside High history.

5-6 sophomore guard Ally Jensen  has moved from shooting guard to point guard this season.  She averages 5.3 ppg.  5-10 junior DaNae Moore rounds out CU's probable starting lineup.  She averages 1.5 ppg.  Look for 5-10 freshman Carli Tritz  to see significant playing time also.  The Sioux City native and 2010 Iowa High School Player of the Year leads CU in steals (17) and is third on the Creighton team in scoring (9.3 ppg) and minutes played (26.5 mpg).

Ninth-year Head Coach Jim Flanery has the highest winning percentage of any coach in Creighton history (.598).  He led the Bluejays to the 2004 WNIT Championship.  Flanery was an assistant to Connie Yori for 10 years when she was the head coach at CU.

Although Nebraska leads the all-time series 25-10 and has won the last five meetings in the series and 12 of the last 15, this series has always been one of close games.  CU is 9-6 against Nebraska at home, including 3-2 in the last five meetings in Omaha.  Creighton's last win over the Huskers was a 58-57 decision in 2004 at the Civic Auditorium.  The last three meetings in Omaha have been decided by a total of nine points.  The Huskers prevailed 69-56 last year in Lincoln behind Kelsey Griffin's 31 points.

I cordially invite you to join Jeff Griesch and me for Nebraska Women's Basketball on the Husker Sports Network.  Our radio broadcast Wednesday night at Creighton begins with the Husker Courtside pre-game show at 6:45 p.m. (central) with the tip-off scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on KLNC 105.3 FM (WOW-FM) in Lincoln, KTWI 93.3 FM (Twister 93.3) in Omaha and available to our entire twenty-five network stations.  All Husker Women's Basketball broadcasts are also available for free worldwide on the internet at www.huskers.com.  I hope you can join us.

Go Big Red!
