Lincoln - The Nebraska women's basketball team will tip off its game with Saint Mary's College at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 2:05 p.m.
Nebraska made the announcement on Monday, following the announcement that NU's football game at Texas A&M on Nov. 20 will kick off at 7 p.m. Previously, the women's basketball tip time had been listed as TBA.
Saint Mary's will visit Lincoln for the first time after posting a 21-10 overall record a year ago. The Moraga, Calif., school produced a runner-up finish with a 12-2 West Coast Conference record last season. The Gaels played the Huskers tough in California last year, before falling 84-73, in one of NU's closest regular-season contests of the year.
Coach Paul Thomas, a 1986 Wayne State College graduate and Creighton, Neb., native, leads Saint Mary's to Lincoln. The Gaels return 12 letterwinners and four starters from last year's club, headlined by 6-4 senior forward Louella Tomlinson. The Australian averaged 16.9 points and 11.1 rebounds while becoming the NCAA's all-time leader in blocked shots.
Coach Connie Yori and the Huskers open the regular season against 2010 NCAA Tournament qualifier Vermont on Saturday, Nov. 13. Tip-off against the Catamounts, who advanced to the NCAA second round and finished with a 27-7 record as the America East Conference Tournament champion, is set for 11:35 a.m.
The Huskers closed exhibition action on Sunday with a 97-55 victory over Nebraska-Kearney at the Devaney Center. Freshman Jordan Hooper led NU in both exhibition contests. The 6-2 forward from Alliance, Neb., averaged 20.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in two exhibition victories.
