Sophomore Morgan Marlborough has been named to the ESPN Academic All-District 7 First Team, while sophomore Jordan Jackson and junior Katie Goetzmann earned spots on the Second Team. Marlborough is now on the ballot for Academic All-America honors that will be announced Nov. 18 by the College Sports Information Director of America.
A pre-elementary education major from Lee's Summit, Mo., Marlborough was named to the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 First Team earlier this week. A two-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, she also earned Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight season, as she leads the conference in goals (17) and assists (12) in 2010.
Last year, senior forward Shay Powell became the third Nebraska soccer player to earn Academic All-America honors. The University of Nebraska leads the nation in Academic All-Americans across all sports with 277.
A native of Overland Park, Kan., Jackson is a two-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection and was named to the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 First Team earlier this week. She is a nutrition, exercise and health science major at Nebraska. On the field, Jackson is a 2010 All-Big 12 First Team selection. She ranked second in the league with 29 points this season and helped lead Nebraska a third-place conference finish. The forward scored Nebraska's first goal in its 4-1 first round win over Missouri on Wednesday.
Goetzmann, a native of Omaha, Neb., is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team member and has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll all six semester of her career. The defender has six assists this season, the third-highest total on the team behind sophomore Morgan Marlborough (12) and Jackson (9). Goetzmann is a business administration major.
The Huskers are currently competing in the 2010 Big 12 Championship in San Antonio. Nebraska defeated Missouri in the first round Wednesday afternoon and faces Oklahoma State in the semifinals Friday night at 8 p.m.
