Huskers Start Season No. 23 in Coaches Poll

Lincoln - The Nebraska women's basketball team will begin pursuit of its eighth consecutive postseason tournament appearance at No. 23 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Preseason Top 25 released on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

The Huskers, who ran to a 32-2 record and a final No. 7 national ranking in the 2010 USA Today/ESPN Poll, earned 95 points from the voting coaches. Nebraska, which captured the 2010 Big 12 title after a perfect 29-0 regular season that included a 16-0 Big 12 mark, was one of six Big 12 teams in the preseason top 25.

Baylor opens the season tied with Stanford at No. 2, while Texas A&M (8th) and Oklahoma (9th) join the Lady Bears in the top 10. Iowa State opens the season at No. 17, while Texas tips off at No. 20.

Oklahoma State was the only other Big 12 team to receive top-25 consideration from the coaches, as the Cowgirls received 19 points to come in at No. 35.

Last week, Nebraska received the 34th-highest point total in the Associated Press Top 25.

Defending national champion Connecticut starts the season at No. 1 in both polls.

Nebraska, which tipped off its season with a 78-60 exhibition victory over Pittsburg State on Halloween at the Devaney Center, concludes exhibition play by taking on Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday. Tip-off between the Huskers and Lopers is set for 2:05 p.m.
