Owasso, Okla. - Steffi Neisen fired a collegiate career-best 73 to lead the Nebraska women's golf team in the second round of the Dale McNamara Invitational on Tuesday.
Neisen, a true freshman from New Prague, Minn., managed to shoot one-over-par on the 6,450-yard, par-72 layout at the Patriot Golf Club. Neisen closed the tournament's second round in a tie for 16th place at 150 in position to contend for her second top-20 tournament finish in four events this season.
Neisen's strong round helped the Huskers move up one spot in the team standings to 12th place in the talent-rich 16-team field. Oklahoma closed the day in first at 583 with an eight-stroke lead over Oklahoma State (592). The Cowgirls produced the day's best round with a 290, while the hosts from Tulsa enter Wednesday's final round in third at 598. The Huskers sit at 624 after rounds of 311 and 313.
Madeleine Sheils, who opened the tournament with an even-par 72 to lead Nebraska on Monday, settled for an 81 on Tuesday to slip into a tie for 26th. Fellow junior Kayla Knopik added a 78 for NU's second-best round of the day to move to 155 in a tie for 41st for the tournament.
