Sheils Leads Huskers in Oklahoma

Owasso, Okla. - Madeleine Sheils fired an even-par 72 to lead the Nebraska women's golf team in the first round of the Dale McNamara Invitational on Monday.

Sheils, a junior from Boise, Idaho, knocked in birdies on the first, second, fourth and fifth holes, before adding two more birdies on 10 and 11. She closed the round in a tie for sixth place to help the Huskers post a 311 over the first 18 holes. NU enters Tuesday's second round in 13th place in the 16-team field.

Junior Kayla Knopik and freshman Steffi Neisen each added opening-rounds of 77 for the Huskers on the par-72, 6,450-yard layout at the Patriot Golf Club. Knopik and Neisen head into the second round in a tie for 39th.

Junior Carolyn Schorgl and freshman Remy Molyneux each managed rounds of 85 to tie for 81st, while freshman Katelyn Wright shot an 82 to tie for 73rd while playing as an individual outside of the Husker lineup.

Oklahoma and UNLV closed the first round in a tie atop the team standings with matching rounds of 292, while OU's Ellen Mueller owned the individual lead after an opening-round 67.

The tournament continues on Tuesday with the second round, which is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.com.
