Cornerback Prince Amukamara

Nebraska Football Weekly Press Conference
Pre-Kansas State
Monday, Oct. 4, 2010
Memorial Stadium (Lincoln, Neb.)

On what he has gotten most out of the bye-week
"I want to  say rest, but I don't know if I got that. It was just a lot of cleaning up from the South Dakota game, and (we) just went back and focused more on technique and fundamentals of our defense."

On Kansas State's offense and running game
"K-State's wide receivers seem like they go hard every play, and they are good blocking wide receivers who run pretty good routes. Their quarterback is a mobile quarterback, and they like to run the option so I think our defense just needs to be ready for that."

On how much NU's defense will be concerned about KSU running back Daniel Thomas
"A lot. Our defense has worked that the corners have to come up and make tackles and be physical. Daniel Thomas is pretty versatile, and so we just have to break down and make a play."

On how much the corners have focused on making tackles
Well, with Coach (Marvin) Sanders, I think that is his favorite part of individuals - the tackling drills. That is one thing that we do everyday that we are full pads. Even when we go with one's on offense, Coach Carl (Pelini) is always telling us to "thud up" or "butt up".

On what he learned from South Dakota State
"I think the obvious one is that we learned not to take a team lightly and to respect the game. It doesn't matter who the opponent is, just give them your best shot because they are always going to do the same."

On whether there is an opportunity to strip the ball from Thomas
"Yes, for sure. The one thing we do practice is that the first person secures the tackle, or wraps him up, and then the second guy is supposed to strip it out. When they are fighting for the extra yards and they sort of forget about the ball, I think that's our best chance to try to get the ball out."

On if he thinks taking a team lightly will be an issue from this point on
"No, not at all. Everyone is out to get us, just with it being our last year in this conference, so we know everyone is going to give us their best. We are going to give everyone ours."

On if they enjoy being hated on the road
"I think we definitely love the animosity. It helps with our swagger and it starts with our captains like Pierre (Allen) and (DeJon) Gomes. They like setting the tones and say things that get us hyped and ready.
