Pre-South Dakota State
Brandon Kinnie
On his performance on Saturday
"I was just going out there and doing what I was brought here to do, catch the ball and make plays. The plays were called, and I was just going with it."
On how much he is aching to score a touchdown
"It is a little bit, but we're winning and that is the most important part. That stuff will come. It is, I can't lie to you, it is just a little bit, but it will come."
On returning kickoffs
"I did some in junior college. I got here and said I would focus on what I needed to focus on with playing wide receiver. Coach Papuchis asked me one day if I wanted to be back there and do it. I said I wanted to be back there, so I got back there and it's just instincts and following blocks. Just following my blocks, they (the blockers) open it up a lot too as well."
On how the team gets motivated for a game against a team like South Dakota State this weekend
"I like to play football regardless of who we play, I think our team feels the same way. It doesn't matter who it is, I go through the same routine, do the same stuff and have the same mindset."
On what he would tell a wide receiver recruit thinking about coming to Nebraska about the offense
"He will have to know how to block first anyway. All in all, I would convince him as much as I could. We throw it enough."
On how it feels to throw a really good block
"It feels good because I feel like I've scored as well. Coach Gilmore prides us on out blocking. He always tells us we are the difference makers in the second level. The receiving corps has bought into that and we believe that. I'll be the first down there every time, jumping with them just like I scored. It's a great feeling."
On how he rates himself and Niles as blockers
"I think we're alright. I don't think we're where we need to be. I think we have some work to do with just getting marked up on guys and stuff like that. This game was ok blocking-wise. We weren't great, I think of some plays where we could have made better efforts to spring another block or spring another guy, but we're learning and we're coming into practice every day to get that right."
On if he and Niles are getting antsy with running the football a lot
"it feels good. It's feeling good with what we're doing now. We're winning, we're running the ball and we're also throwing the ball. It feels good. It feels good also having three one hundred yard rushers and knowing the line is doing their job so are the receivers at the second level. That feels great. It feels great to spring a guy and run after him after it's done and jump on him, knowing I helped him do that. It will all come into play."
On how the game has slowed down for him this year
"It's slowed a whole lot, just knowing the playbook, knowing what I'm doing now. I'm playing with some confidence. I get what I'm doing now. I know my depth routes. I know my assignments. I know where I need to be and just going out there and making the plays. The rest will take care of itself."
On how being a part of the offense this year compares to being a part of the struggling offense last year
"This year we have a little swagger about ourselves. We feel good, we're confident in our game; we just go out there and put our work on film. As Coach Watson says all the time, it's not about the team we're playing, it's about us. It's about us showing we're a physical team and we're going to get after somebody. Coach always tells us to put that on film and show that."
On how he feels like he's come along being a factor in the offense
"I feel like I've came along. I don't' think I've there yet as a whole at all. I feel like I have a ways to go before becoming a complete package as a whole receiver. I think I still have work to do on route running, catching the ball and making good blocks and pinpointing up with the right guy and stuff like that."
On if he has let Niles know that he is ahead of him on the receiving charts
"No, I don't pay attention to stuff like that. Like I said, you go out there and play ball and just get it. We're going to compete regardless."
