Nebraska sophomore Jordan Jackson has been named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and claimed a spot on the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week following her performances last weekend. Jackson's Big 12 award is the first of her career and the second in three weeks for the Huskers after senior goalkeeper Tara Macdonald earned the defensive honor Aug. 31.
A native of Overland Park, Kan., Jackson led the Huskers to a pair of wins last weekend by producing six points on two goals and two assists as NU downed Cal State Fullerton and Iowa with 3-1 victories. The sophomore had two assists on Friday against the Titans, giving her five on the season to tie for first in the league. Jackson then scored two of Nebraska's three goals on Sunday against Iowa, including the game-winner on a header in the 63rd minute. Her 15-point total is tied for second in the Big 12 Conference, 27th in the NCAA and already surpasses her 13-point output from the 2009 season.
Jackson worked her way into the lineup as a freshman last fall and has started 23-of-29 games during her career. She scored five goals and added three assists in her first year on campus as one of the top newcomers in the league.
In addition to Jackson, Texas' Alexa Gaul (Defensive), Colorado's Lizzy Herzl (Co-Newcomer) and Texas' Leah Fortune (Co-Newcomer) earned the other Big 12 Player of the Week awards.
Jackson and the Huskers have a crucial week ahead of them, as NU kicks off Big 12 play by hosting Texas and No. 6 Texas A&M at the Nebraska Soccer Field. The Huskers take on the Longhorns on Friday at 4:30 p.m., before meeting on the Aggies on Sunday at 1 p.m.
